  The Role of Parents

Since 1912, when Scouting was founded, the strength of a Scout Troop has come from the participation and support of the Parents of the Boys who are learning to be leaders.

There is a reason that the Eagle Scout award is given first to the mother of the Scout receiving it.  If it were not for the continual support, the time consumed, the arrangements made, the focusing and refocusing of the Scout on what needs to be done, the attendance at important events, the coaching, the hand holding, the drying of tears, the correction of attitudes, the setting of high expectations, and so on... no Scout would achieve Scouting's highest award.

Troop 333 recognizes these efforts and appreciates them.  Troop 333 welcomes parents to be active members of the Troop.  If you can make the commitment both to being there and to training we encourage you to register as an Assistant Scoutmaster.  The Troop Committee is another way to lend your skills and expertise.  Simple things like being part of the After-Camp Crew that helps sort out and put away gear when the Troop returns from a campout and everyone is dirty and exhausted, are ways to make Troop 333 truly a world-class Scouting Unit.

Most Parents aren't sure how to help or where they fit in.  Each parent is encouraged to chat with the Scoutmaster or Committee Chairman to see what might need doing -or- just pick something up and carry it.

Other ways for Parents to be involved include:

bulletMerit Badge Counselors - we guarantee there is a badge you know something about.
bulletFund Raising coordination
bulletAfter-Camp Crew
bulletGoing along on campouts as part of the Men's Patrol
bulletService project coordination
bulletResearching possible outings, making calls, visiting camps or trails in advance
bulletTroop Committee member
bulletAbout 1000 other things we haven't even thought of

Perhaps the biggest single thing Parents can do to ensure their son grows into the exceptional person he can become is to make Scouting a priority in his life and yours.
