General Gear Information

BASIC GEAR

These are items to begin gathering since they are generally useful on Scouting trips.  Specific types of trips (canoeing, backpacking, etc)  will require more specific gear.

A. Eating Gear

  • Canteen - 1 quart (2 suggested)*

  • Plastic bowl or Scout cook kit*

  • Plastic Cup*

  • Knife, fork, spoon set*

  • Paper towels (12 sheets)

  • Waterproof matches

  • Can opener

  • Water purification tablets

  • Food (as appropriate with Patrol)

  • Snacks and Trail mix

B. Personal Items - Packed in ditty bag(s)

  • Soap

  • Face towel

  • Toilet paper

  • Tooth brush & paste plus personal toiletries

  • Insect repellent (non-aerosol)

  • Moleskin*

  • Personal first aid kit with Band-Aids*

  • Flashlight with spare batteries and bulb

  • Large safety pins (4)

  • 25 cents (for a phone call)

  • Whistle

  • Chapstik & sunscreen

  • Extra boot laces (optional)

  • Needle and thread (optional)

C. Sleeping gear

D. Clothing - Adjust weight as needed for season and specific trip

  • Hiking boots*

  • 1.5 pairs of thick hiking socks per day (wool or synthetic)

  • 2 pairs of pants or shorts (heavy in winter - wool or corduroy) and underwear

  • 2 shirts  (2nd shirt wool or polypro in winter)

  • Nylon shell with hood

  • Swimming trunks

  • Cap/hat for sun protection

  • Bandanna

E. Extra items for winter:

  • Wool/Synthetic sweater

  • Wool/Synthetic mittens or lined gloves

  • Wool/Synthetic stocking cap

  • Heavy jacket

F. Miscellaneous Equipment:

  • Poncho or rain jacket (easily accessible)*

  • Compass (Silva preferred)

  • Zip-lock bags*

  • Plastic trash bags (2)

  • 50 feet of -inch nylon cord

  • 2 to 4 straps (for fastening things onto backpack frame)

  • Pocket knife (less than 3-in. blade) - no sheath knives

  • Backpack cooking stove (optional and only if Scout is certified)

  • Day pack

  • Back pack*

  • Identification on back flap of pack

  • Pack cover or large plastic garbage bag*

  • Duffel bag (substitute for back pack on some trips)

  • Boy Scout Handbook

  • Boy Scout Fieldbook (optional)

Troop Gear

The Troop provides the following gear for collective use on Campouts.  Scouts do not need to have these items:

  • Stoves
  • Tent
  • Chuck Box (camp kitchen)
  • Lanterns

Troop 333 Uniform and Equipment

OFFICIAL SCOUT UNIFORM USED BY TROOP 333 (Class A):

  • Short or long sleeve Scout Field Uniform shirt
  • Green or Red shoulder loops
  • World Crest (centered above left pocket about 2 in. or more)
  • Left pocket patches
  • Rank/Arrow of Light (if earned)
  • Left sleeve patches
  • Palmetto County Council strip
  • Troop 333 numbers
  • Leadership position (if applicable)
  • Trained emblem (if earned)
  • Right sleeve patches
  • Name Tag
  • American flag/ Patrol medallion/ Quality Unit (if earned by Troop)
  • Merit badge sash (for dress uniform- Courts of Honor & Boards of Review)
  • Scout web or leather belt with Scout buckle
  • Long Scout Field Uniform pants (for dress uniform and cool weather)
  • Short Scout Field Uniform pants (for summer uniform and warmer weather)
  • Scout Field socks
  • Regular shoes or hiking boots

SUMMER UNIFORM (Class B):

  • Troop 333 T-shirt (Purchased each year as a Troop)
  • Green Shorts
  • Socks
